“She Falls”

Ever tell someone you’re in a relationship with, you need space, to think? That happened tonight, and her heart is terribly sad. The co-dependant part of her wants to call him back and say, “forget everything I just said, I just want to be with you”. They have both said this in other ways over the last year and half with countless break-ups. He is the father of her youngest son. The co-dependant part of her wants to stay with this man, thinking that will keep their family a family. Who wants their child to grow up in a broken home or multiple homes?

Commitment is being loyal to someone and loving them unconditionally wherever they are in their journey. Commitment takes two people making that decision together.

He once read a poem to her, years ago. She asked his permission to paint about the poem. Sadly she has misplaced the poem. Looking at this painting still invokes in her the feelings while it was painted.

A broken heart, surrounded in the falls.

A heart that was always fragile.

A heart that still stands

Even

with the pressure of the falls.

A heart grasping for the surface

A heart surviving

A heart barely under water,

But

A heart that refuses to sink.

Never settle for less than what you deserve and put out there what you deserve by treating others how you expect to be treated. Self-love seems to be the most difficult one.

Such a poignant post. I think we can all recognize ourselves in the her anguish. What to do? Yes, commitment is being loyal and giving unconditional love, but sometimes it doesn’t mean to share one’s lives. Both the painting and the poem is beautiful, but also so very sad.

Thank you. You have captured a piece of my aching soul. What does commitment mean to you, may I ask?

Commitment depends on what we are talking about. But generally, as I already indicate, it has to do with being loyal and not stepping down no matter what.
